Does AfroDécor collect personal information?

Yes - we do collect personal information. Most of our forms just require your name and e-mail address. The only other form that requires more personal information is our Order Form. In order for us to properly complete your transaction, we need your billing and shipping addresses as well as payment information, depending on your chosen method of payment.

What does AfroDécor do with my personal information?

Your information may be used by us and us alone for marketing purposes only. In other words, you may receive an occasional message from us informing you of specials or new items.

Will AfroDécor disclose any of my personal information?

We strongly believe that it is your right to have your information remain private. AfroDécor does not, and will not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to others. Never!

I've heard a lot about cookies. What are cookies?

In the simplest of terms, "cookies" are small text files that tell your internet browser software (like Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer) to store certain information on your computer's hard drive, so that when you go back to a particular web site, that information can be retrieved by the web site owner. In the shopping environment, some web sites store products that have been added to your cart on your hard drive as cookies. While most web browsers automatically accept cookies, you can change your browser's preferences to prevent automatic acceptance of cookies. However, doing so will make it nearly impossible for you to purchase items from "some" online stores, but not from AfroDécor.

Does AfroDécor use cookies?

No. AfroDécor does not use cookies to implement our on-line shopping cart function or to collect other information about our visitors. We use a tracking system that randomly assigns you a unique number that follows you from page to page and keeps track of the items you place in your shopping cart. Once you check out (or leave our store), the number is canceled. (You can view your number in the narrow status bar at the top of your browser's window. Every time you visit our site, you will be assigned a different random number.) At no time do we use cookies to collect information about our visitors.

We know that people who shop via the internet are very concerned about the security of their transactions. Following is a description of the security practices in place at our online store.

As you browse through our store and find items that you would like to purchase, you add them to your virtual shopping cart by clicking the BUY button that is located near the item description. To remove an item from your cart, just delete the number from the quantity column of your cart and click "Recalculate" to update your cart. Our virtual shopping cart is actually a small text file that is updated as you add/remove items from your cart while you shop.

The Checkout Process

When you are ready to checkout, click the "Checkout" button on the virtual shopping cart. When you click the Checkout button, you will be asked to select your preferred method of payment. Currently, there are two choices: (1) Credit Card, and (2) Check or Money Order. If you choose Check or Money Order, simply follow the instructions provided to submit your order and payment.

If you select Credit Card, you are taken to the Secure Order Form. This form is ENCRYPTED using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology and a trusted SSL web server digital certificate, that is used to secure and authenticate our web site. Our SSL web server digital certificate is issued through our host, Networks Hosting Solutions, by Thawte Certification, a globally recognized provider of digital certificate products, services and solutions that create security, privacy and authentication in electronic commerce.

The Verification and Payment Process

On the Secure Order Form you are asked to provide your name, billing and shipping addresses, and your credit card number and expiration date in the spaces provided.

When this form is complete, click on the "Submit" button. At this time, our web server initiates an ENCRYPTED connection with the Authorize.Net credit card verification service to either approve or deny your transaction. (NOTE that this is the same process that takes place when your card is "swiped" through the card terminal at your local store. The credit card information--that is embedded in the magnetic strip on the back of your credit card- travels the same route as our virtual terminal.)

If your transaction is approved, a receipt is generated by our web server. This receipt is e-mailed to us and to you at the e-mail address you provided. Our copy of your receipt informs us of what you ordered, how much you paid, and whether or not the transaction has been approved by your credit card company.

In fact, the only way by which we can view your payment information is if we go to the Authorize.Net secure web site and log in over an encrypted connection and view our transaction logs. The only reason we would ever need to do this would be to void a transaction for you in the event that you changed your mind about a particular purchase.
